Microsoft commissioned a research study conducted in collaboration with McKinsey & Company’s Education Practice entitled “The Class of 2030”.  This sounds very far out, but these students are today’s grade 1 students. They’re sitting in classrooms today and will graduate into a world that is changing faster than ever. That generation will face challenges we can’t even imagine today. They will learn and engage with each other, with technology, and with information in entirely new ways. They will study university courses that might not even exist today and enter a workforce transformed by automation.  Allow me to showcase key themes and data points from the research so you can help prepare your learning environments now for the future!

Research included in the study forecast that 20% of current workers are in occupations that will likely shrink. Ten percent of the workforce are in occupations that are likely to grow as a percentage of the workforce, and 70% of the workforce are in jobs where there is greater uncertainty about the future.
So, we have set out to understand what kind of skills the class of 2030 will need, how we can best prepare them through their educational journey, and the promising role that technology can play to enable their success.

2000 students involved in the study said they want; social-emotional skills, personalization, and collaborative opportunities.  Let's make this happen for them.
