Dirk Meyer is an educator and entrepreneur with a passion for Moodle. Community building is key to Dirk's long career in education. He has chaired the Alberta Moodle HUB group for nearly one decade, bringing together some 500 educators from across Alberta and beyond. Most recently he started advocating for the expansion of the WCLN in Alberta and was instrumental in signing up five school boards. Twenty one years ago, when most school boards were discussing whether email is a good thing, Dirk was providing a simple blogging platform to his students from a server hidden under his classroom desk. When schools and not-for-profits approached him to help them in their LMS efforts, he realized that good IT support and reasonably priced hosting was not a reality in many schools. As a career educator and learning specialist in a public school board, he knows that technology goes only so far; community building and support is actually key so that all students can be successful. His company, icampus21.com is now hosting and supporting many Moodle sites across Canada. Clients include a national automotive training provider, a university, both private and public online and traditional schools, and various indigenous education programs in Alaska, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
