I'm the author of the Giller Prize short-listed novels The Cure for Death by Lightning and A Recipe for Bees, as well as The Spawning Grounds and many other novels. I also write literacy learner novels for adults and teens working to improve literacy skills, published by Orca. I've taught creative writing for 25 years, and nearly a decade of that was within the UBC CW MFA optional-residency program, through online forums and summer residencies. I now mentor writers from around the world privately on my own online forums, and through writing retreats and master classes across the country. In BC, I host the annual fall retreat at the Sorrento Centre the first week in October. I have created a distributed learning creative writing course for high school students which focuses on learning to write fiction. That course will be distributed by Kumuni shortly. You'll see information on the course at the Kumuni table at the symposium. Here's the Kumuni website: https://kumuni.com/wp/ I'm delighted to talk about the high school CW course or my own online mentoring and developmental edits. See you there!
